Abstract: The use of a moving class interval in calculating a skill score for a series of forecasts is investigated. When forecasts are expressed in quantitatively exact terms, it is found that the use of this type of interval in calculating the correct and expected correct number of forecasts gives a good measure of the skill of the forecasting procedure.
