Abstract: A year-long current meter mooring near the Mississippi River Delta, with meters at four levels, suggests that minimal flow occurs around the front of the Delta during normal conditions. The observed currents exhibit variations on time scales of days to months. Much of this variability is attributed to an intrusion of the Loop Current into the northern Gulf of Mexico during the deployment.
