Abstract: Equations for deducing the vertical motion of air based on aircraft measurements are presented along with derivations. The equations are based on the aircraft equations of motion, but due to different assumptions, the resulting equations are quite different. The equations are then applied to the same aircraft data for comparison. Considerably different results are obtained. The equation based on Lenschow's work is believed to give the most reliable results.
