    Abstract: Two simple equations are used for calculating the shapes of the axes of updrafts in convective storms, based on consideration of changes of horizontal momentum in rising air. Momentum change parameters are obtained empirically by a comparison with observations of two storms. The results indicate that both mixing and aerodynamic drag are important influences on updrafts.
