Abstract: To derive analytical formulas for the rise and growth of a buoyant moist plume, it is necessary to introduce the Boussinesq and bent-over plume assumptions into the conservation equations. It is suggested that similar simplifications should be introduced into the specified source fluxes of momentum, heat and water if the model is to be consistent. The importance of these source flux corrections on plume trajectory and visible outline is demonstrated by comparing predictions with measurements of a large cooling tower plume. With the correction of source fluxes, good agreement between predictions and observations is obtained with a simple, single entrainment model.
