    Abstract: The one‐dimensional inundation over an impermeable horizontal bed by incident solitary waves is studied both experimentally and numerically. The numerical model is based on a set of Boussinesq long‐wave equations cast in the Lagrangian frame and a finite element technique is used to effect a numerical solution.
