| description abstract | The introduction of a new generation of wide-bodied, double-decked aircraft known as new large aircraft is expected to have a heavy impact on the design and operation of the baggage claim area. This paper discusses an analytical methodology to size the baggage claim device and its surrounding area. The methodology models the correlation between the arrival times of bags belonging to the same passenger cluster, as well as the influence of passenger clusters on the area requirement. The use of two claim devices—one for each aircraft deck—is suggested and shown to have a potential to reduce the claim area requirement. | |
