    Abstract: A model is developed to describe mass transport resistance through a concentration boundary layer associated with an algal biofilm. This model is solved simultaneously with a model for attached algal growth subject to inorganic carbon limitation. The profile of inorganic carbon species through the boundary layer is found to be nonlinear due to the interaction of inorganic carbon speciation and pH. As
