Abstract: An individual's view on the public‐private division of responsibility depends to a large extent on how he or she earns a living. In other words, where you stand depends on where you sit. Having served in government for twenty years, I can appreciate the public sector's philosophy; however, time has shown that unbridled growth in the public sector cannot be tolerated. In this paper I present a logical argument that clearly defines the public‐private sector involvement in the geodetic surveying area.
