Abstract: Shear tests of five approximately one‐third scale models of large, reinforced concrete beams with shear reinforcement are examined to determine how varying web widths and different transverse stirrup distributions affect beam shear strength. Load‐deflection response, ultimate shear capacities, stirrup stresses, surface inclined crack widths, and internal crack widths are discussed. The results indicate that the shear capacity of a large reinforced concrete beam is not affected by the transverse spacing of stirrups across the web width.
