Abstract: Pumping water in distribution systems accounts for a large part of the budget of water utility departments. This study investigated the extent of savings possible from selection of the best pump or pump combination in a multipump water distribution system booster station. Pump curves and system head curves were generated and used to identify the most cost‐effective pump combinations for various head‐flow conditions. It was shown that considerable savings are possible through optimum pump selection.
