ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Aerodynamic Far Field Noise in Idling Circular Sawblades
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The acoustic pressure radiated to the far field from dipole sources at the rim of a rotating circular sawblade is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Scattering from the sawblade ...
Vortex Shedding: The Source of Noise and Vibration in Idling Circular Saws
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Vortices separating from the edges of cutting teeth were shown to be the dominant source of pressure fluctuation and hence noise in circular saws. Measurement of pressure on the surfaces of ...
The Noise Control and Acoustic Division: “From Little Acorns . . .”
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
On the Vibration of a Translating String Coupled to Hydrodynamic Bearings
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The vibration of a translating string, controlled through hydrodynamic bearing forces, is analyzed by the transfer function method. Interactions between the string response and the bearing film ...
Parametric Control of Flexible Systems
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: One position sensor, a bilinear observer, and quadratic, observer-based feedback to a parametric actuator asymptotically stabilize n-modes of a flexible system. Using a perturbation approach, the ...
Mathematical Analysis of Stability of a Spinning Disk Under Rotating, Arbitrarily Large Damping Forces
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Stability of a rotating disk under rotating, arbitrarily large damping forces is investigated analytically. Points possibly residing on the stability boundary are located exactly in parameter space ...
Exact Perturbation for the Vibration of Almost Annular or Circular Plates
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A perturbation solution is presented to analytically determine the eigensolutions for self-adjoint plate vibration problems on nearly annular or circular domains. The irregular domain eigensolutions ...
Dynamic Response of an Axially Moving Beam Coupled to Hydrodynamic Bearings
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The vibration response of a distributed axially moving beam, controlled through distributed hydrodynamic bearing forces, is analyzed by the transfer function method. In the axially moving beam, ...
Energy and Conserved Functionals for Axially Moving Materials
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Wave Characteristics and Vibration Control of Translating Beams by Optimal Boundary Damping
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The transverse motion of a translating tensioned Euler-Bernoulli beam is controlled by passive or active damping applied at a boundary. Even for an undamped beam with a symmetric boundary ...
