ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Design and Modeling of a New Drive System and Exaggerated Rectilinear Gait for a Snake Inspired Robot
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In recent years, snakeinspired locomotion has garnered increasing interest in the bioinspired robotics community. This positive trend is largely due to the unique and highly effective gaits utilized by snakes to traverse ...
Integrating Solar Cells Into Flapping Wing Air Vehicles for Enhanced Flight Endurance
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Flapping wing aerial vehicles (FWAVs) may require charging in the field where electrical power supply is not available. Flexible solar cells can be integrated into wings, tail, and body of FWAVs to harvest solar energy. ...
Characterization and Modeling of Elastomeric Joints in Miniature Compliant Mechanisms
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Accurate analysis models are critical for effectively utilizing elastomeric joints in miniature compliant mechanisms. This paper presents work toward the characterization and modeling of miniature elastomeric hinges. ...
Improving Prediction of Flapping-Wing Motion By Incorporating Actuator Constraints With Models of Aerodynamic Loads Using In-Flight Data
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Flapping-wing flight is a challenging system integration problem for designers due to tight coupling between propulsion and flexible wing subsystems with variable kinematics. High fidelity models that capture all the ...
Decomposition of Collaborative Surveillance Tasks for Execution in Marine Environments by a Team of Unmanned Surface Vehicles
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper introduces an approach for decomposing exploration tasks among multiple unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) in congested regions. In order to ensure effective distribution of the workload, the algorithm has to ...
Informed Sampling-Based Planning to Enable Legged Robots to Safely Negotiate Permeable Obstacles
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Legged robots have a unique capability of traversing rough terrains and negotiating cluttered environments. Recent control development of legged robots has enabled robust locomotion on rough terrains. However, such approaches ...
