ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Elastic-Plastic Finite Element Analysis for the Head-Disk Interface With Fractal Topography Description
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: An elastic-plastic contact analysis based on a finite element model and real surface topographies was performed to elucidate the evolution of deformation at the head-disk interface. The topographies ...
Nanotribological and Nanomechanical Properties of Ultrathin Amorphous Carbon Films Synthesized by Radio Frequency Sputtering
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The dependence of the nanotribological properties of ultrathin amorphous carbon (a-C) films, deposited on Si(100) substrates by radio frequency sputtering, on their nanomechanical properties was ...
Three-Dimensional Contact Analysis of Elastic-Plastic Layered Media With Fractal Surface Topographies
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Three-dimensional rough surfaces were generated using a modified two-variable Weierstrass-Mandelbrot function with fractal parameters determined from real surface images. The number and size of ...
Stability and Resolution Analysis of a Phase-Locked Loop Natural Frequency Tracking System for MEMS Fatigue Testing
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: An analysis of a nonlinear control system that was used to track the natural frequency of a MEMS resonator is presented in this paper. A phase-locked loop system is used to track the natural ...
Effect of Surface Patterning on Contact Deformation of Elastic-Plastic Layered Media
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A plane-strain finite element analysis for patterned elastic-plastic layered media was performed in order to elucidate the effect of surface geometry on the deformation and stress fields due to ...
Indentation Analysis of Elastic-Plastic Homogeneous and Layered Media: Criteria for Determining the Real Material Hardness
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A hardness analysis based on finite element simulation results and contact constitutive models is presented for both homogeneous and layered elastic-plastic media. The analysis provides criteria ...
Effect of Residual Stress in Surface Layer on Contact Deformation of Elastic-Plastic Layered Media
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The effect of residual stress in the surface layer on the deformation of elastic-plastic layered media due to indentation and sliding contact loading and unloading was analyzed with the finite ...
Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Elastic-Plastic Layered Media Under Thermomechanical Surface Loading
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The simultaneous effects of mechanical and thermal surface loadings on the deformation of layered media were analyzed with the finite element method. A three-dimensional model of an elastic ...
Surface Cracking in Elastic-Plastic Multi-Layered Media Due to Repeated Sliding Contact
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Surface cracking in a multi-layered medium due to sliding of a rigid asperity was analyzed using linear elastic fracture mechanics and the finite element method. Overlapping of the crack faces ...
Mechanical and Thermomechanical Elastic-Plastic Contact Analysis of Layered Media With Patterned Surfaces
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: An elastic-plastic finite element analysis of a sphere in normal and sliding contact with a layered medium possessing a patterned surface with regularly spaced rectangular pads was conducted in ...
