description abstractThe design of four-bar crank mechanisms to have prescribed maximum and minimum angular velocity ratios is treated. The mechanisms are optimized by minimizing their maximum pressure angles. Two design procedures, based on the collineation axis theorem are presented: one uses the computer, the other graphical constructions. Worked out examples using both techniques are included. The paper also presents property charts for the four-bar crank mechanism which aid in the practical selection of this device.
