description abstractAn analysis is proposed for estimating the average interface temperature rise during sliding of two surfaces. The basic model includes surface topography statistics, frictional conditions, the effective surface hardness, and thermal parameters. In 75 percent of the material pairs studied, the analysis gives fairly good results. It appears applicable to either dry or lubricated surfaces.
