description abstractIt is shown that the motion of a galloping system can be quenched by using (a) linear, tuned, damped vibration absorbers, (b) aerodynamic in-span dampers, or (c) spring-damper support systems. It is also shown that either (a) mechanical dampers mounted near the endpoints of the system or (b) tension operated dampers can be used to control galloping provided the self-excitation terms have a small magnitude.
