description abstractExperimental evidence indicates that billet die friction is higher in conventional extrusion than in hydrostatic extrusion. Simple hydrodynamic lubrication theory is used to show that this may be accounted for by the less favorable conditions for hydrodynamic lubrication in the conventional process.
