description abstractFilm thickness and pressure distribution are calculated analytically for a heavily loaded line contact of rollers in the presence of a viscoelastic (Maxwell) lubricant. The overall film shape is flattened for a given exit film thickness. A reduction in the film thickness from its Newtonian value is predicted. An extension to the case of variable viscosity is also included and a comparison with the situation for a Newtonian fluid is indicated.
