description abstractThis paper presents a procedure for the automated selection of the configuration of stepped prismatic bars placed between given hammers and anvils to produce maximum force amplification or attenuation. A relatively economical computer scheme has been developed for the analysis of the wave propagation in bars with step changes in impedance. The procedure is utilized in an automated system for the optimum design of such bars.
