description abstractIncreasing complexity of components and cost of manufacturing make it necessary to employ computer techniques for process planning in metal working. The paper describes an automatic, computerized system for the planning of optimal machining operations, exemplified in complex machine shafts. Certain aspects of the design of the machine tool are discussed; namely, those which render the machine easily compatible with automatic process planning.
