description abstractA simplified method based on the integration of the energy integral equation is used to investigate the changes in turbulent boundary layer parameters across a normal shock wave. The velocity distribution in the boundary layer is represented by a logarithmic velocity profile, thus allowing the prediction of incipient separation as well as the degree of separation. The present analysis is compared with an approximate method using the moment-of-momentum equation and the power law profile. The present method of predicting flow separation also shows good agreement with published experimental data.
