description abstractA new process of forming square and pentagonal-shaped tubes from round tubes by rotating the tube between three rollers is described. It is found that, depending on the ratio of the roller diameter to tube diameter, the final shape of the tube could be altered. The process may have some commercial use as, for example, the forming of a square or pentagonal shape of some length at the end of the tube as well as remote from the ends. Consideration is given to the mechanism involved in forming these shapes, but because of the complex nature of the forming process, a detailed physical description cannot be outlined at the present time.
