description abstractThis paper develops experimentally based nonlinear models for the vortex shedding forces on oscillating cylinders. The lift in-phase and out-of-phase with cylinder motion and mean drag are determined from experiments with cylinder amplitudes from 0.05 cm to 1.5 cm, and reduced velocities between 2 and 12. The results are reduced to a uniform grid, tabulated, and applied to prediction of resonant, nonresonant, and time history vortex-induced vibration. The results are reduced to a uniform grid, tabulated, and applied to prediction of resonant, nonresonant and time history vortex-induced vibration.
