description abstract | An algebraic method is presented for synthesizing the four-bar crank-rocker mechanisms in general, with the offset slider-crank mechanism as a special case, for coordinating the prescribed input and output link extreme positions. Solutions to the equations of constraint are derived for different cases. Among a large number of the available solutions, an optimal design is governed by a given parameter which is determined based on a design criterion. Numerous examples are provided. | |
