description abstractA workshop on the international status of research and development in micro-manufacturing will be held in Arlington, VA, on April 22, 2005. The program will present the results of a year-long study of micro-manufacturing processes and equipment, including desktop manufacturing, for submillimeter scale components and complete systems. The expert panel, chaired by Dr. Kornel Ehmann of Northwestern University, visited the top research and development laboratories in companies, government facilities, and universities in Asia and Europe in late 2004 and early 2005 to gather information on the state of the art abroad. Results from a preliminary workshop held at the NSF on micromanufacturing R&D in the U.S. will also be discussed.
