description abstractThe effect of compressibility on foil bearings is found to be characterized by the parameter T∞ /pa r0 . Solutions are obtained for various values of this parameter. It is found that, with increasing compressibility, (a) The nominal clearance decreases; (b) the exit undulation decreases in amplitude and increases in wavelength until it completely disappears when T∞ /pa r0 ≥ 2.37.
