description abstractThe paper presents a discussion of test equipment and procedures used to control raw polymers and compounded rubbers. The capabilities and uses of the Mooney Viscometer, Brabender Plasticorder, and Monsanto Oscillating Disk Rheometer are discussed. The data obtained during sampling stages and its value and subsequent application to monitoring production lots of elastomeric materials, are presented in an effort to show how close quality of conformance is maintained between prototype components and their mass-produced counterparts. The application and potential uses of Gas Chromatography as a means of polymer and finished compound identification is also described.
