description abstractA novel design of planetary tapered roller traction drive was described. The design eliminated the spin motion induced sliding, offering high mechanical efficiency and improved wear performance. Principles of performance calculation have been outlined. Torque and life calculations on a 186 kw (250 hp) prototype indicated a remarkable torque capacity and satisfactory durability.
