description abstractThe present work deals with on-line monitoring of tool wear and control of workpiece diameter so as to avoid the formation of taper in the machined job. A noncontact, displacement optical fiber transducer is developed to monitor the tool wear indirectly by constantly monitoring the change in the workpiece diameter due to the tool wear. The results show that the dimensional inaccuracy can be maintained below 0.03 mm using the developed system.
