description abstractFirst and second finite-difference expressions are derived for the first three derivatives of displacement with respect to time. The numerical results obtained by applying these difference expressions to a specific cam-follower mechanism are found to be in good agreement with the values obtained by successive differentiation of the displacement-time equation. Procedures for evaluating and improving the numerical results are also discussed.
