description abstractThe nickel-base wrought Alloy 718 was designed for high strength at elevated temperatures, that is, near 1200 deg F; the alloy also has exceptional mechanical properties at cryogenic temperatures. This paper reviews the metallurgy of Alloy 718. The effect of variations in composition, microstructure, and heat-treatment are correlated to mechanical properties; the relationships among these factors are complex and are described where possible.
