description abstractA simple mechanical model for a high-pressure hose made of ethylene-propylene rubber reinforced with two helical steel wires and a layer of fabric is analyzed. The model assumes perfect bonding between the different constituents and the torsional effect due to the right-handed helical wires is neglected. Both linear and nonlinear stress-strain relations are considered for the rubber which is assumed to be incompressible. Stresses and strains of the constituents are obtained for different internal pressures and geometrical parameters.
