description abstractA viscous and electrically conductive fluid separates two parallel plates. A magnetic field of intensity B0 is applied perpendicular to the plates. The top plate squeezes downward whereas the bottom plate moves laterally in its own plane. The nonsimilar problem is solved for the conditions of the top plate moving with constant velocity or constant force, while the bottom plate moves with a constant velocity. The effect of magnetic field on the braking action is discussed.
