description abstractAn experimental study shows that the traction coefficient of friction (μT ) is a function of the predicted air film height, the roller and film surface roughness, and the static coefficient of friction between the web and roller. The traction coefficient shows a noticeable decrease as the air film height becomes greater than the equivalent root mean square roughness of the web and roller and also becomes less dependent on the static coefficient of friction.
