description abstractThis article reviews recent developments in the analysis of interfacial instabilities in systems involving multiple viscous and viscoelastic fluids. The scope of the review is limited to three basic problems in stratified shear flows: plane Poiseuille-Couette flow, circular Poiseuille flow, and gravity-driven film flow down an inclined plane. Important advances in this field of study are summarized and areas deserving further development are discussed.
