description abstractThe paper describes an experimental investigation into the thermal behavior of a three lobe profile bore bearing. Three geometries are considered, a symmetric, tilted and tilted with siderail geometry. The results are presented in a format which enables convenient comparison with predicted data and confirms the severity of the thermal excursions in the loaded lobe. Global behavior is also presented which demonstrates trends similar to those for a cylindrical geometry. The results confirm the effectiveness of the side rail in reducing lubricant sideflow while having only a marginal effect on thermal excursions.
