description abstract | An experimental study of riblets with extra thin fins (5 μm thick) is presented. A drag reduction of 2–3 percent per quarter conduit wall is indicated when h+ is around 3–15 in a square section of air flow conduit lined with the extra-thin-fin-riblets (ETFR) on one side wall. The pressure distributions along the conduit indicate the influence of the riblet front step on the drag reduction performance in the conduit flow. The measurement methods and the detailed structure of the ETFR are also discussed. | |
