description abstractThis paper outlines a program under development to establish requirements, develop criteria and guidance for systematically evaluating the behavior of structures, systems, and components (SSC) in existing Department of Energy (DOE) facilities located across the United States when subjected to natural phenomena hazards (NPH). The requirements have been established in DOE Order 5480.28. Criteria are summarized in the implementing standards which accompany the order. An approach to implement the requirements for existing systems and components is currently being developed.
