description abstractA rigorous thermohydrodynamic analysis of loading direction effects in a cylindrical bore bearing is presented and compared with experimental data. The results show that for good comparison between measured and predicted behavior, careful attention must be paid to thermal boundary condition specification. However, for the types considered, the global performance was not affected markedly. The calculations demonstrate that this bearing type is very sensitive with respect to loading direction and when compared with other work it shows that a rigorous thermohydrodynamic analysis is necessary for accurate prediction of thermal behavior.
