description abstractA finite element model that simulates indentation of the cornea was generated to examine the feasibility of using indentation data to determine mechanical properties. A layered model which included geometric nonlinearities was necessary to characterize the indentation process. Results indicate that a secant modulus could be determined by measuring indenter force and contact area.
