description abstractThe process of hydrostatic extrusion, where the liquid-surrounded billet is pushed through a die by means of liquid pressure instead of a ram, is analyzed. Expressions are provided giving the following: (a) The required pressure as a function of the other process variables. (b) The most suitable cone angle minimizing the required pressure. (c) The capacity of existing equipment. The present study is an extension of a previous study [12] of flow through converging conical dies.
