description abstractIt is widely accepted that for mitigating the vibration developed in structures, damping should be applied to the components with the largest response and be added at locations in the components’ energy transmission paths. However, it is difficult to determine the optimum damping location for some complicated dynamic systems. In this paper, the SEA concept is used to prove mathematically the reason for damping application and also to provide a convenient procedure for selecting the location of the damping treatment.
