description abstractThe tribological properties of titanium in sliding contact with single crystal Al2 O3 were studied to investigate wear mechanism associated with tribo-chemical reaction due to friction heating. Oxidational wear was observed. A theoretical approach to predict the wear rate of titanium was also studied.
