description abstractThe paper describes a full elastohydrodynamic lubrication analysis for circumferentially grooved rollers. Isothermal conditions are assumed and the form of the grooves is sinusoidal. Results are presented which show the effect of both temperature (i.e., lubricant viscosity) and amplitude of the roughness upon the distribution of pressure and the film thickness. The operating conditions used in the analysis are representative of those found in disk machine experiments that have been used to simulate scuffing failure of gears.
