description abstractDuring the certification of lifeboats for use as a lifesaving appliance, certain impact tests are required to evaluate the strength of the system and the occupant’s exposure to accelerations. The purpose of this paper is to present a rational procedure to infer the potential for these impact accelerations to cause injury to the occupants of conventional and free-fall lifeboats.
