description abstractIn this paper the continuum and noncontinuum (discrete) theories for radiative properties and radiative transfer models in dispersed particulate, porous and cellular media capable of absorbing, emitting, and scattering thermal radiation are reviewed. The governing equations for the radiative transfer are presented. Different models for the radiative properties of dispersed media are discussed. The methods for solving the inverse radiation problems to determine the spectral and total properties of homogeneous and nonhomogeneous radiatively participating dispersed media and other relevant parameters are also reviewed.
