description abstractExperimental data are given of the friction coefficient of spherically radiused sliders against three polymers and two elastomers. Tests were carried out over a four order of magnitude range of PV, to include friction conditions covering a wide range of interface temperature. The results indicate that an upper bound “friction defined temperature” may be obtained at high PV, which is not exceeded as conditions are made more severe. This is characterized by a reduction of friction with increasing velocity according to μ∝V−1/2 .
