description abstractThis paper describes the use of decouplers within an integrated manufacturing cell operating in a Just-In-Time (JIT) environment. The operation of a cell and the function of decouplers are described. A simulation model was developed using GPSS/PC to study cell behavior and the effects of decouplers on the manufacturing cell. The influence of machine time and quality levels on the production rate of the cell is examined.
