description abstractThis investigation is an attempt to propose a method to determine the chatter threshold precisely so that a flexible manufacturing system can be materialized or a dynamic performance test criteria for a machine tool can be established. It has been found that the chatter threshold can be easily detected through the in-process measurement of the horizontal deflection of the workpiece. Comparison with other available methods shows that the proposed method is simple and more accurate.
